| This Blue Heron is gathering twigs for the nest. Amazing to watch this big bird navigate such tight spaces. |
|
A night heron. Unusual to see it out in such plain sight, they prefer to keep on the down low. |

A face only a mother could love. But these Muscovy have gorgeous feathers and coloring, and they wag their tail just like a dog! |

A nice view of a green heron. A small and very secretive bird, it has wonderful coloring. |

| One of our favorites. This Ringed Teal lives here year round and is simply exquisite. Very rare for this area. Folks call him Peanut or Pee-Wee, he responds to both names. Many years ago he used to get picked on quite a bit by all the other ducks. Each spring he adopts duckling families, sheparding them around until they are as big as he is, then he moves on to another family. The end result of this "favorite uncle" tactic- he rarely got picked on anymore. Brains AND beauty! Prefers Arboretum Lagoon in winter, Stow Lake the rest of the year. Not seen since winter 2003... We hope he has found love!! |

| These Widgeons just love our San Francisco winters! Such beautiful detail in the feathers- this picture cannot do it justice. |
|
These little Buffleheads are winter visitors too. Females have the cheek patches, Males have white head caps. |

| A Red Tail Hawk tries blending in... as if! The ducks were rather blase about his proximity, as if they knew he was out of his element. |

Oh-oh, looks like the issue of lunch is about to be solved. |
